Anna was born and raised in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad). After high school she started to study a pedagogy at the University of Leningrad. In her last year she was invited to study in the Netherlands. She took that offer and mooved to the  Netherlands to study at  the University of Amsterdam, this time Russian language and literature. She settled in Tilburg and traveled up and down to Amsterdam for her studies.
